Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
