Cars in German City Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police reported they were alerted by a individual who found a car in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.

City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.

A senior political figure stated the attack left him without words and had to be resolved promptly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
